ABOUT THE BOOK:

The woods are creeping in on a nanny and two young girls in this chilling modern Gothic thriller.

Architect Tom Faraday is determined to finish the high-concept, environmentally friendly home he’s building in Norway – in the same place where he lost his wife, Aurelia, to suicide. It was their dream house, and he wants to honor her with it.

Lexi Ellis takes a job as his nanny and immediately falls in love with his two young daughters, especially Gaia. But something feels off in the isolated house nestled in the forest along the fjord. Lexi sees mysterious muddy footprints inside the home. Aurelia’s diary appears in Lexi’s room one day. And Gaia keeps telling her about seeing the terrifying Sad Lady…

Soon Lexi suspects that Aurelia didn’t kill herself and that they are all in danger from something far more sinister lurking around them.

……

MY REVIEW:

Fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat thrills! This book will hook you as you flip through the pages to determine what only what DID happen in the past, but what WILL happen in the present. I love how the novel starts off, with just a little glimpse into what happened in the past to a woman named Aurelia, just enough to leave us hanging with a ton of questions. What happened to her? They say she died of suicide, leaving her husband and two young children, but is that was truly happened or is something more dark and sinister at play?

The novel then jumps to the here and now and we meet young Lexi. She overhears a conversation between two other women on a bus one day, a woman named Sophie talking to her friend. Sophie is talking about applying for a nannying job in Norway. Intrigued, and determined to start over with a new life away from it all, Lexi gathers the information for how to apply for the job and applies, pretending to be Sophie. Soon afterwards, Lexi finds herself on a flight to Norway to be the Faraday family’s new nanny.

The story unfolds and is told from alternate timelines – both past and present, and is told from varying POV’s – Tom Faraday in the past and present, his late wife Aurelia in the past, and Lexi in the present.

I loved reading about Lexi’s job nannying for the Faraday family, and the mysterious surroundings she found herself in. There were a lot of strange things going on in the home and within the family, and Lexi was given a very mysterious and strange warning: if you hear noises in the basement, do NOT go there. I mean what!?

Full of bone-chilling, creepy, and spine-tingling pages, that you will devour once you start to read. I enjoyed the story being told from different characters in the book, and was curious to know why all these strange things were happening, and what truly happened to Aurelia that cost her her life.

……

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Unger returns with her best novel yet. Reminiscent of the classic Strangers on a Train, Confessions on the 7:45 is a riveting psychological thriller that begins with a chance encounter on a commuter train and shows why you should never, ever make conversation
with strangers.

Be careful who you tell your darkest secrets…

Selena Murphy is commuting home from her job in the city when the train stalls out on the tracks. She strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat, and their connection is fast and easy. The woman introduces herself as Martha and confesses that she’s been stuck in an affair with her boss.
Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena’s station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again.

But days later, Selena’s nanny disappears.

Soon Selena finds her once-perfect life upended. As she is pulled into the mystery of the missing nanny, and as the fractures in her marriage grow deeper, Selena begins to wonder, who was Martha really? But she is hardly prepared for what she’ll discover.

Expertly plotted and reminiscent of the timeless classic Strangers on a Train, Confessions on the 7:45 is a stunning web of lies and deceit, and a gripping thriller about the delicate facades we create around our
lives.

MY REVIEW:

Wow! This book has so many revelations, surprises, secrets, deception, betrayal and lies, lies, lies. I loved this book! Definitely a must read for the year!

I loved the various characters in this novel and reading about their lives, both past and present. I enjoyed reading about what they have been through in life and how that has made them into the people they are today, and how the characters are all connected. Lots of shocks and surprises that I did not see coming and I love that in a book as it keeps me guessing only to shock me when I least expect it. It adds to the excitement of the book and this book does exactly that!

There are several characters in this book, but it is easy to follow along and keep track of them all. Some characters are despicable and easy to hate, others are sweet and easy to adore.

A great novel that I definitely recommend.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Two strangers.

Two very different lives.

A chance to escape…or is it?
Her life isn’t as perfect as you think…

Former actress Madi needs to escape from her lonely London life. She’s started to forget things and has the strongest sense she is being watched…

Prue feels suffocated by her claustrophobic village life, especially when she is humiliated in the most public way. Now Prue is desperate for anonymity –whatever the cost.

……

MY REVIEW:

Meet Prue and Madi – strangers who need a little break and to “get away”, so they decide to house swap. Madi lives in the city, and needs to unwind and get away from everything, so decides to live in Prue’s cottage in the country. Prue wants to live in the city and explore it’s surroundings, so decides to move into Madi’s place for a bit.

While she is there, strange things are happening – things are moved and placed somewhere she knows she didn’t put them but thinks she is slowly losing her mind and being forgetful. Little does she know that she is being watched and someone is entering Madi’s place, unbeknownst to Prue. Who is this person that is messing with Prue and what do they want? Prue finds herself thinking about someone back home by the name of Joe. She had to escape for a while from her town, but what happened that was so terrible that she felt the need to flee?

I enjoyed the suspense of it all in this story, and reading the novel from alternating POV’s. Parts are told from Prue’s side and parts are told from Madi’s side. I also enjoyed the chapters that were told from the “unknown” character that was playing mind games with Prue, thinking of course that it was Madi. Afterall, how were they to know that Madi and Prue had chosen to do a house swap?

So much suspense I loved it.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The entire town thinks Sadie Saunders is dead. Missing now for a week, they say she was murdered. And they think they know who did it.

Aware of the suspicion that surrounds them – and one of them in particular – Sadie’s five best friends vow to find out the truth. So they pack their bags and set off for the woods where Sadie was last seen.

But what starts as a search quickly turns into something more sinister. Each of them has a secret, and they all know more about Sadie’s past than they are willing to admit. As the landscape opens up, and the darkness closes in, the reality of their situation begins to dawn on them.

It was never really a search party.

It was a witch hunt.

And not everyone is going to make it home.

……

MY REVIEW:

When one of your friends has gone missing from your group of friends, what do you do? Well you go into the woods where she went missing in the first place and try to find her of course.

This is the situation that 5 friends find themselves in. Despite police search efforts, Sadie is nowhere to be found. The group of teenagers think the police are looking for Sadie in all the wrong places, and who better to know Sadie and where she could be than those closest to her. Each of these teenagers has something to hide and makes you guess that either one of them could be responsible. No one can be trusted and believed, so who did it?

This book will have you engaged in the story, desperate to find out what happened to Sadie and who is responsible. I love a good who-done-it type of novel and this novel is just that. It keeps you guessing and second-guessing what you thought you knew, and is full of twists and turns that you will not see coming.

An enjoyable book that I recommend.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

One dark Los Angeles night, Beth Crawford is driving home from a dinner party, furious at her husband for spending money they don’t have. A few blocks away, a scantily dressed woman in a blonde wig lugs a suitcase full of blood-spattered cash toward a bus stop. In the streets between the two women, police cars flash past, racing to the scene of a quadruple homicide, a botched drug deal in which an undercover LAPD officer is among the dead….

With propulsive energy, deliciously unpredictable characters, and masterful plotting, FRAMED is a fresh take on this bestselling category, offering the smart, dark twists of Gone Girl and Luckiest Girl Alive with powerful suspense and a cast of characters that will get deep under your skin.

……

MY REVIEW:

This book was addictive, edge-of-your-seat entertainment! This is the first novel I have read by this author and I will definitely be on the lookout for more.

Framed follows the story of Beth and her husband Jay. They are out one day for drinks with their friends Emily and Peter. Jay flirts with Emily. Then enter Cassie, she is an old friend of Beth’s. Cassie wants to ask for Beth’s help, but can she bring herself to ask for help after all these years? Cassie’s boyfriend is Rick and he ends up dead. What happened? Is Cassie responsible? Detective Goode is at the scene of a house, there there are bodies and blood everywhere.

I loved the character development in this novel. There are many characters in this story and it is easy to follow along and keep them all straight. Most characters are very likeable and fun to read about. I enjoyed the alternate POV’s as the story evolves and is told from Beth’s, Jay’s, Cassie’s, Rick’s, and Detective Goode’s POV. I find that novels that are told from many different POV’s are very interesting as you get to learn so many different things from each character. Everyone sees things differently, interprets things differently, and it is fun to get all the various pieces and put them all together. Not everyone is as they appear to be and not everyone is being honest, not only with themselves but with everyone around them.

I devoured this book and I highly recommend this book! There are so many twists and turns in this book that you will love, and will keep you wanting to read more. With a big twist at the end that you will not see coming, you will be HOOKED! Totally mind blown right now!

If you haven’t had your eyes set on this novel be sure to check it out and grab your copy today!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Everybody lies . . .

Bestselling mystery writer Lucy Harper’s talent for invention has given her fame, fortune, and an army of adoring readers. It has also saddled her with dependents, namely her fawning husband Dan.

When Dan suddenly goes missing, his disappearance evokes dark memories that take Lucy back more than thirty years—to the day her brother vanished without a trace. That’s when Lucy began conjuring stories. The police investigation revealed few confirmed details, so she created tales to fill in the gaps, to explain what happened that day her brother disappeared—and young Lucy was the only witness.

Now decades later, with the whole watching, Lucy’s past and present are colliding, and this bestselling author skilled in telling stories is losing control her own narrative.

Where is Dan? What happened to Lucy’s brother? And is the brilliant mystery writer—an expert in devising red herrings and hidden clues—revealing all she knows about both disappearances?

With twists and turns that lead all the way back to World War II, Gilly Macmillan reveals the answers in this clever and compulsively readable mystery sure to thrill fans of  Liv Constantine and Shari LaPena.

……

MY REVIEW:

Addictive, full of twists and turns, and immersive. This novel will have you guessing and second guessing everything that is going on and making you try to figure out what is going on and who is responsible for everything. I love a good book that keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing and doubting everything you think you know until the end and this novel does just that.

The novel centers around Lucy and her husband. When Lucy was younger, she had an imaginary friend named Eliza, and they did a lot of things together, things that are secrets and Eliza told her not to tell anyone -ever! On the night all those years ago where Lucy’s younger brother disappears, while he was with Lucy, Lucy swears she has no idea what happened to him. Fast forward many years later, and Lucy is now an adult and married, but still has conversations with Eliza and sees her from time to time. What better than an unreliable character such as Lucy to be the main POV and character in this book. Is Lucy telling the truth all the time, half of the time, or does she ever tell the truth at all? It makes for an interesting read as you find yourself questioning everything she says and does.

I enjoyed reading along and trying to figure out my own theories of what happened in the past as well as what is going on in the present. I enjoyed reading the alternating timelines, from present to past, as it builds to the suspense of the present and gives you little pieces at a time of what happened all those years ago.

A definite must read for the year!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Charlotte, a midthirties Long Island woman, has felt so alone since her promising career in neuroscience imploded. But she has an online support group for trauma survivors; she has Rachel, a friend who has seen her through the worst of it; and now she also has Peter, a mysterious new boyfriend who has asked that their budding romance remain a total secret.

That is why she is too scared to report his disappearance to the authorities when he vanishes without a word.

Weeks later, police contact her to make an ID on a body and she fears the worst for her missing beau. Instead, she arrives at the morgue and feels a terrible relief when she sees a woman she has never met before on the table in front of her. But relief is replaced by confusion, then terror, when Charlotte realizes she has become a person of interest.

Why did Jane Doe have Charlotte listed as her emergency contact? Was it revenge or a warning? And where exactly does Peter factor into all this? As Charlotte becomes the prime murder suspect, she enters into a race against the clock to find truth about the dead woman and the connections they shared. But what she discovers is beyond anything she could have ever imagined.

……

MY REVIEW:

Full of suspense and cliff hangers that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow along wanting to know what was going to happen next, and what exactly happened in the past that led to the events that are currently going on. Who is “H” that Charlottetown refers to and what does he know about everything that happened before?

We are introduced to several characters in this book but it is easy to follow along with them all and keep them straight. I found the characters, at least most of them, to be quite interesting and endearing, and to be quite likeable. We are introduced to many characters from Charlotte’s past, which for the most part are the most unlikeable characters in the book, but as you red along you will find out why. I really enjoyed reading from Detective Sylvestri’s POV as I enjoyed his character in the novel and he was an interesting and straight forward person. I enjoyed reading from his perspective and his take on things.

With so many bodies showing up in this novel, and must of the evidence pointing towards Charlotte, it begs the question – is she responsible? And if not, why does it seem that it all is surrounding her somehow? Who is the murderer, why are the victims targeted specifically, and who is next? A highly active, fast paced novel that I highly recommend.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Jenna is a wife, a mother, a doctor. She’s also the victim of a stalker.

Every time she leaves her house, she sees him. Disturbing gifts are left at her door. Cruel emails are sent to her colleagues. She has no idea who this man is but she feels powerless against him.

Until the day he is brought into her hospital after a serious accident, and Jenna is given the chance to find out once and for all why this man is tormenting her. Now, the power is all hers.

But how many lines is she willing to cross to take back control of her life?

……

MY REVIEW:

A twisty, gripping, disturbing thriller that will have you looking over your shoulder too see if someone is watching you. I loved the suspense in the novel and wondering just exactly why she had a stalker, what he wanted with her, and why her? Jenna doesn’t know him, at least not that she can remember, so why has he been targeting her, leaving her disturbing “gifts” and threatening emails. Not only is she freaking out, her children and husband are also affected as well. Not sure what else to do, she toys with the idea of moving out of their home in an attempt to escape her stalker. Will that be enough for her to flee him once and for all, and for them to restart their lives stress free and safe from their stalker?

I enjoyed the cat and mouse feel of the book, and trying to guess just what the stalker wanted with Jenna. No matter what she did to try to figure out just who he was, she is unable to figure out what he wants with her and her family. Now that he is in hospital after an accident, will the threats and disturbing gifts stop arriving?

An addictive book that you will not be able to stop reading once you’ve turned the first page. You’ll be hooked and want to know what will happen next, and will devour this book until you turn the very last page.

I definitely recommend this book.

It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. Zoe was sitting in her hotel room, in her perfect white dress, looking forward to the moment when she would make kind, handsome Toby her husband.

Zoe is increasingly sure that she doesn’t have the full story. But does she want to know the truth, if it will destroy everything?

……

MY REVIEW:

Amazing! Thrilling!  I could not put this book down and I was HOOKED from the first page!!

Seriously, if you have not had your eyes on this gripping, addictive thriller then you must add it to your TBR right now! You will devour this book and fly through the racing chapters as you unveil all the juicy, dark, twisty details of just what exactly is going on as the plot unfolds

The book is told from the pov of Zoe and follows her married life to Toby and their two young children. When Zoe and Toby got married 10 years ago Zoe ended up fainting and no memory of what happened to make her faint. Determined to go on with her wedding, even though she was dizzy and had a bump from her fall, she ended up walking down the aisle and marrying the handsome love of her life, Toby. Zoe has a wonderful life with her husband and children, and she gets along brilliantly with her mother and father-in-law.

I loved Zoe’s character and enjoyed reading from her pov. She was an interesting character and I liked hearing about her life and her views on everything. Like Zoe, I too was curious to know what exactly happened on her wedding day all those years ago that made her faint and what happened in those moments where she has lost her memory. I felt so bad for her leading up to her anniversary celebrations and everything that was seeming to go wrong – her husband lying to her, one of her good friends ignoring her, and someone spreading rumours about her. I was eager to get some answers along with Zoe and I enjoyed all the racing and edgy twists and turns this book has. Several shocking revelations and twists that you will not see coming, and that whopper of a twist at the end!?! I LOVED it!!

All of the stars for this book! I cannot wait to see what the author comes out with next!
