MY REVIEW:

I love a good police procedural novel, one that leaves you wanting to read more and keeps you hooked the entire way through. This one does just that, with a romantic twist in it as well, which I loved!

Jax and Ali have a romantic past, as he is her ex-boyfriend. Hearts were broken, feelings were hurt, and time has passed.. Ali has since moved on and gotten married, but have those feelings healed? When Jax is placed to protect Ali from her late husband’s crime family they are both struggling with their feelings and emotions over what happened between them. He is sent to protect her, but will he be able to do his job properly when there are so many emotions and a shared past involved?

A great story that will have you flipping pages to see what happens next. If you like police procedural novels you will love this one as well.

Hi everyone and welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Jane Anonymous by Laurie Faria Stolarz. Thank you to the publisher for an ecopy via NetGalley, and to The Fantastic Flying Book Club for inviting me on the tour!

……

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Bestselling author Laurie Faria Stolarz returns with Jane Anonymous, a gripping tale of a seventeen-year-old girl’s kidnapping and her struggle to fit back into her life after she escapes.

Then, “Jane” was just your typical 17-year-old in a typical New England suburb getting ready to start her senior year. She had a part-time job she enjoyed, an awesome best friend, overbearing but loving parents, and a crush on a boy who was taking her to see her favorite band. She never would’ve imagined that in her town where nothing ever happens, a series of small coincidences would lead to a devastating turn of events that would forever change her life.

Now, it’s been three months since “Jane” escaped captivity and returned home. Three months of being that girl who was kidnapped, the girl who was held by a “monster.” Three months of writing down everything she remembered from those seven months locked up in that stark white room. But, what if everything you thought you knew―everything you thought you experienced―turned out to be a lie?

MY REVIEW:

A great book that will have you guessing with all the twists and suspenseful events. I loved how this book drew me in and had me reading more as I wanted to know hat would happen next.

I really enjoyed reading about Jane’s character development throughout the novel. It was interesting to read alternate timelines, as the story was told partly from “then” when she was held captive, and the “now” when she has found freedom again. I enjoyed how it went back and forth, only giving us glimpses and pieces at a time, slowly, until we got the bigger picture of what truly happened.

An emotional roller coaster, that covers many sensitive topics, including mental health, abduction, imprisonment, etc, this book will have you feeling so many raw emotions. You will be hooked once you start reading this novel, and you will want to read it all in one sitting!

Great job on a wonderful book Laurie! I look forward to reading more novels written by you!

Happy Publication Day to How Quickly She Disappears by Raymond Fleischmann. Thank you to Berkley for inviting me to be a part of this exciting blog tour and for gifting me a beautiful finished hardcover copy of this book to read and share my review with others.

……

ABOUT THE BOOK:

It’s 1941 in small-town Alaska and Elisabeth Pfautz is alone. She’s living far from home, struggling through an unhappy marriage, and she spends her days tutoring her precocious young daughter. Elisabeth’s twin sister disappeared without a trace twenty years earlier, and Elisabeth’s life has never recovered. Cryptic visions of her sister haunt her dreams, and Elisabeth’s crushing loneliness grows more intense by the day. But through it all, she clings to one belief: That her sister is still alive, and that they’ll be reunited one day.

And that day may be coming soon. Elisabeth’s world is upended when Alfred Seidel — an enigmatic German bush pilot — arrives in town and murders a local man in cold blood. Sitting in his cell in the wake of his crime, Alfred refuses to speak to anyone except for Elisabeth. He has something to tell her: He knows exactly what happened to her long-missing sister, but he’ll reveal this truth only if Elisabeth fulfills three requests.

Increasingly isolated from her neighbors and imprisoned by the bitter cold and her own obsession, Elisabeth lets herself slip deeper into Alfred’s web. A tenuous friendship forms between them, even as Elisabeth struggles to understand Alfred’s game and what he’s after.

But if it means she’ll get answers, she’s willing to play by his rules. She’s ready to sacrifice whatever it takes to be reunited with her sister, even if it means putting herself — and her family — in mortal danger.

……

MY REVIEW:

First of all lets admire the beauty of this cover! Such a beautiful book cover!

This book had me hooked! I enjoyed the plot of the book – Elisabeth lost her twin sister Jacqueline some 20 years ago when she simply vanished without a trace. All these years later Elisabeth still cannot help but wonder where her sister is and what happened to her. Is she still alive? If she is still alive, then why hasn’t she reached out and gotten in contact after all these years? Elisabeth is determined to find her twin sister and find out what happened all those years ago.

I enjoyed reading about her interactions with Alfred. He was dark, twisted, and clearly had his own agenda. He loved talking in riddles and playing games, and it was interesting to read about his growing relationship with Elisabeth. If Elisabeth wanted to find out the truth about her missing sister then she had to play Alfred’s games, had to befriend him, and play by his rules or else risk never fining out the truth about her sister? Is she willing to risk all that? Definitely not! She would do (and pretty much did do) anything and everything he asked to get one step closer to finding out the truth about her sisters disappearance. She not only puts herself in danger, but her entire family as well.

Will she find out the truth about what really happened to her sister or is she playing Alfred’s game all for nothing? You’ll have to read this novel to find out!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

I glance at my wife as she climbs into the passenger seat, and I am bursting with confidence. Today will be everything I’ve promised her…and more…

Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he’s the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That’s why he’s planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he’s promised today will be the best day ever.

But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them and doubts start to arise. How much do they trust each other? And how perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really?

Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion. In the bestselling, page-turning vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage…or a life.

……

MY REVIEW:

This book was amazing and had me HOOKED from the beginning. I loved how the story unfolded, starting with husband and wife Paul and Mia about to begin what is planned to be a romantic getaway. Setting out on their journey to their lake house, Paul is determined that it will be the “best day ever”.

OMG I cannot say enough great things about this amazing novel! If you haven’t read this book yet you are seriously missing out! Go get it now! You’ll see what I am talking about.

I loved the sarcastic tone to the novel (Yes I am a sarcasm type person and I LOVED IT!). I enjoyed the dark humour, the suspense, the edge-of-your-seat chapters, and the thrills of what was to unfold next. I enjoyed how fast-paced this novel was and it is definitely one of my favourite novels of the year!!

Without giving too much away you seriously will love this novel!

This was the first book I have read by Kaira Rouda but will definitely not be my last! I am thrilled to get my hands on her other books as well!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

‘No one lives this way unless they want to hide something.’

When Caroline and Francis receive an offer to house swap, they jump at the chance for a week away from home. After the difficulties of the past few years, they’ve worked hard to rebuild their marriage for their son’s sake; now they want to reconnect as a couple.

On arrival, they find a house that is stark and sinister in its emptiness – it’s hard to imagine what kind of person lives here. Then, gradually, Caroline begins to uncover some signs of life – signs of her life. The flowers in the bathroom or the music in the CD player might seem innocent to her husband but to her they are anything but. It seems the person they have swapped with is someone she used to know; someone she’s desperate to leave in her past.

But that person is now in her home – and they want to make sure she’ll never forget . . .

……

MY REVIEW:

Imagine swapping houses with a complete stranger. Or at least someone you think is a stranger, completely unknown to you… would you swap houses and take the chance to live in someone else’s home for a while, and have them live in yours? What if that person you swapped houses with has something to hide? What if they are looking for something that you are trying to hide?

I enjoyed the premise of this book and it had me guessing what was going to happen next. I was curious to see how the story would unfold and I was curious who this other swap person was and what exactly it was they were after.

I enjoyed how the story was told from alternating timelines and alternating point of views. Overall a good story that I enjoyed.
