ABOUT THE BOOK:

Beauty. Wealth. Success.

She’s got it all.

And it all should’ve been mine.

When Eleanor Hardwicke’s beloved father dies, her world is further shattered by a gut-wrenching secret: the man she’s grieving isn’t really her dad. Eleanor was the product of an affair and her biological father is still out there, living blissfully with the family he chose. With her personal life spiraling, a desperate Eleanor seeks him out, leading her to uncover another branch on her family tree—an infuriatingly enviable half sister.

Perfectly perfect Victoria has everything Eleanor could ever dream of. Loving childhood, luxury home, devoted husband. All of it stolen from Eleanor, who plans to take it back. After all, good sisters are supposed to share. And quiet little Eleanor has been waiting far too long for her turn to play.

MY REVIEW:

This novel is an addictive read from beginning to end. While Eleanor’s father is in hospital about to pass away, she finds out that he isn’t her biological father. Eleanor cuts ties with her mother and sister who have treated her awful for her whole life. On the course of finding her biological father, she finds that he is married, with a daughter very close to her own age, and that his family have it all – prestige, wealth, a good home.

After approaching her biological father at his workplace one day, he rejects her and wants nothing to do with her and doesn’t want her in his or his new family’s lives. Shunned and heart broken, Eleanor decides to find and befriend her half-sister Victoria. They are the same age, Victoria is beautiful, lives in a gorgeous home, has money, and is happily married. Eleanor decides to keep her identity and connection to Victoria a secret, at least for now, and the two quickly hit it off and become quite close friends in a short time. Eleanor is thrilled that they seem to have hit it off so nicely, and is unsure how to reveal her true identity to her half-sister afraid of what Victoria will think of her, and she now doesn’t want to lose the friendship that they have built.

An addictive read that will hook you in and keep you hooked until you turn the very last page. With shocking twists, turns and surprises, and several revelations that will shock you, and leaves you with a plot twist at the end that you will not see coming! An amazing book that is hands down one of my favourites of this year!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

A dark, witty page-turner set around a group of wealthy mothers and the young musician who takes a job singing to their babies and finds herself pulled into their glamorous lives and dangerous secrets….

After her former band shot to superstardom without her, Claire reluctantly agrees to a gig as a playgroup musician for overprivileged infants on New York’s Park Avenue. Claire is surprised to discover that she is smitten with her new employers, a welcoming clique of wellness addicts with impossibly shiny hair, who whirl from juice cleanse to overpriced miracle vitamins to spin class with limitless energy.

There is perfect hostess Whitney who is on the brink of social-media stardom and just needs to find a way to keep her perfect life from falling apart. Caustically funny, recent stay-at-home mom Amara who is struggling to embrace her new identity. And old money, veteran mom Gwen who never misses an opportunity to dole out parenting advice. But as Claire grows closer to the cool women who pay her bills, she uncovers secrets and betrayals that no amount of activated charcoal can fix.

Filled with humor and shocking twists, Happy and You Know It is a brilliant take on motherhood—exposing it as yet another way for society to pass judgment on women—while also exploring the baffling magnetism of curated social-media lives that are designed to make us feel unworthy. But, ultimately, this dazzling novel celebrates the unlikely bonds that form, and the power that can be unlocked, when a group of very different women is thrown together when each is at her most vulnerable.

……

MY REVIEW:

I enjoyed the humour and the storyline of this novel as you follow along on Claire’s experiences with this mommy-and-baby group. All the women in the group have secrets, their own problems, and are not perfect although on the surface they appear to have a perfect, healthy, wealthy and happy life. The group dynamics was quite interesting to read about and I enjoyed reading and watching the story unfold.

There are plenty of characters in this novel and they all come with their own set of personalities that are quite enjoyable to read about. There are also a lot of revelations and twists that I enjoyed reading about and it kept the suspense of what was going to happen next. An enjoyable read that I recommend!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Tough as nails and seven months pregnant, Detective Maggie Kennedy-O’Keefe of Grotto PD, is dreading going on desk duty before having the baby her and her husband so badly want. But when new evidence is found in the 25-year-old cold case of her best friend’s murder that requires the work of a desk jockey, Maggie jumps at the opportunity to be the one who finally puts Eve Knox’s case to rest.

Maggie has her work cut out for her. Everyone close to Eve is a suspect. There’s Nola, Eve’s little sister who’s always been a little… off; Nick, Eve’s ex-boyfriend with a vicious temper; a Schwinn riding drifter who blew in and out of Grotto; even Maggie’s husband Sean, who may have known more about Eve’s last day than he’s letting on. As Maggie continues to investigate, the case comes closer and closer to home, forcing her to confront her own demons before she can find justice for Eve.

……

MY REVIEW:

Heather has done it again with another addictive, edge of your seat thriller. You’ll find yourself deeply immersed in this story as you flip through the pages, leaving you wanting more. Imagine finding yourself at the forefront of a police investigation into the death of a young girl 25 years ago, and that girl was your best friend. This is what happens to Detective Maggie Kennedy-O’Keefe. Her best friend Eve Knox was murdered and the case has remained unsolved all of these years.

This book is full of interesting characters, many of whom will be a suspect at one point or another. I loved the character development in this novel and the multiple POV’s, some from the past and some from the present. Eve’s sister Nola certainly was (and is!) quite strange and most definitely off. Eve’s ex-boyfriend also had his own issues, and could be violent and quite scary. Then there is one of the neighbourhood men who, although he is married with children, seems to be quite creepy at times. I enjoyed reading about these various characters and getting to know them and how they all relate to one another in the story.

I enjoyed reading about Maggie’s character and reading about her friendship with Eve when they were younger. They were the best of friends and had their fair share of ups and downs, like any friendship. I also enjoyed reading about creepy Nola and all of her activities. She was quite an interesting character and a little different from everyone else, which made her that more interesting and creepy. She has many odd interests, even as a young child.

A great novel that had me hooked as I read through the pages and kept me guessing until the very shocking ending that I did not see coming! A book that you will love so be sure to grab your copy today!
